Lymphatic Drainage
Device-assisted lymphatic drainage — as a standalone treatment or combined with connective tissue massage.
Lymphatic drainage
Fluid that accumulates needs to drain
The lymphatic system is the body's drainage network: it removes excess fluid, waste products and toxins from the tissue. When this system slows down — through illness, lipoedema, pregnancy or inactivity — fluid and waste products accumulate. Device-assisted lymphatic drainage actively stimulates drainage. At Bodyfix we combine this with connective tissue massage for a structurally deeper effect.
How it works
How does device-assisted lymphatic drainage work?
At Bodyfix we use pressotherapy: compartmentalised cuffs that wrap around the legs, hips or abdomen. The cuffs build pressure sequentially and release it — precisely in the direction of the lymphatic pathways. This stimulates the lymphatic system to actively transport fluid towards the lymph nodes.
Combined with deep connective tissue massage — which breaks down adhesions that obstruct lymph drainage — a synergistic effect is created. The connective tissue massage clears the way; the lymphatic drainage removes what was freed.
Build pressure
The pressotherapy cuffs build pressure sequentially along the lymphatic pathways, from distal to proximal. This pushes lymphatic fluid towards the lymph nodes.
Drain fluid
Excess fluid, waste products and toxins are actively removed from the tissue. Swelling decreases, the tissue becomes more supple.
Combined effect
After connective tissue massage, lymphatic drainage maximises results: released tissue drains fluid and waste products more efficiently than without pre-treatment.
The Bodyfix Method
Diagnosis first, then treatment
Not every fluid problem has the same cause. Through the Bodyreading — our thorough diagnosis — we determine what is causing your complaints: connective tissue adhesions, a slower lymphatic system, or a combination of both.
On this basis we draw up a treatment plan. Sometimes lymphatic drainage alone is sufficient. More often the combination with connective tissue massage is more effective — particularly for lipoedema, post-partum complaints or chronic oedema.
Our therapists are trained in the Bodyfix Method and have a minimum of 2,500 hours of practical experience. We are a treatment institute — not a salon.
Results
What can you expect?
Lymphatic drainage works noticeably quickly for acute fluid problems. For chronic complaints, consistency is essential.
1–3 sessions: first relief
Immediate relief from the heavy, tense feeling. Visible reduction in swelling. The tissue feels lighter and more supple.
4–8 sessions: structural results
Oedema decreases structurally. With combination treatment including connective tissue massage: visible improvement in skin texture and adhesions.
Maintenance: sustaining results
For chronic complaints (lipoedema, recurring oedema): monthly or fortnightly maintenance sessions sustain the results.
Results depend on the cause of the fluid complaint, lifestyle and severity of the condition. After your consultation we will give you a realistic picture.

Frequently asked questions
Everything about lymphatic drainage at Bodyfix
What is lymphatic drainage and how does it work? +
Lymphatic drainage stimulates the lymphatic system to remove excess fluid, waste products and toxins from the tissue. The lymphatic system has no pump of its own unlike the cardiovascular system — external stimulation speeds up the drainage process. At Bodyfix we use device-assisted lymphatic drainage (pressotherapy), which applies systematic and measurable pressure to the tissue.
What is the difference between manual and device-assisted lymphatic drainage? +
Manual lymphatic drainage is performed by a physiotherapist using gentle, rhythmic movements. Device-assisted lymphatic drainage (pressotherapy) uses compartmentalised cuffs that systematically build and release pressure along the lymphatic pathways. At Bodyfix we combine device-assisted lymphatic drainage with deep connective tissue massage for a combined effect on both tissue and fluid.
Which complaints does lymphatic drainage help with? +
Lymphatic drainage is effective for fluid retention (swollen legs and ankles), oedema, lipoedema, post-partum fluid accumulation, pregnancy-related fluid retention, and as support alongside connective tissue treatment. Also for a feeling of heavy or tired legs.
Can I combine lymphatic drainage with connective tissue massage? +
Yes — and this is precisely the strength of the Bodyfix Method. Connective tissue massage breaks down the adhesions that obstruct fluid drainage. Lymphatic drainage then actively removes the freed fluid and waste products. The combination works structurally better than either treatment alone.
How many lymphatic drainage sessions do I need? +
For acute fluid retention (e.g. post-partum or after a long flight) 3–6 sessions are often sufficient. For chronic complaints such as lipoedema or recurring oedema we recommend an ongoing maintenance programme. After your consultation we will draw up a realistic plan.
Is lymphatic drainage painful? +
No. Device-assisted lymphatic drainage (pressotherapy) is a gentle, non-invasive treatment. The cuffs build pressure gradually — this feels pleasant and relaxing. In combination with connective tissue massage the overall treatment can be more intensive.
How does lymphatic drainage at Bodyfix differ from other providers? +
Bodyfix offers lymphatic drainage as part of an integrated treatment protocol, combined with deep manual connective tissue massage. We always start with a Bodyreading — a thorough analysis of your complaints. This determines whether lymphatic drainage alone is sufficient or whether a combination with connective tissue massage gives better results.
