Posture, fascial chains and tension: how it all connects
Your fascia runs as a continuous network through your whole body. That is why tension in one place can be felt elsewhere. Discover how posture and fascia are connected and how connective tissue massage can support a more supple, freer feeling.

What are fascial chains?
Fascia is the connective tissue that runs like a fine, coherent web through your whole body. It wraps around your muscles, joints and organs and links them together into one whole. Precisely because this tissue never really stops but flows into itself everywhere, we speak of fascial chains: continuous pathways along which pull and tension can travel. A stiff spot in your hip therefore does not have to stand on its own — through the chain that tension can pull on your lower back, your shoulders or your neck. Want to read the basics first? Then have a look at what fascia exactly is.

Fascia is one continuous connective tissue network throughout the whole body

Tension moves along the fascial chains from place to place

Your body reacts as a connected whole, not as separate parts
At BodyFix — specialised in connective tissue and fascia techniques since 2008 — it is precisely that coherence that takes centre stage. We look not only at the place where you feel something, but at the tissue around it. Read also how local tense spots arise in our article about trigger points and muscle knots.
Posture & tension
How posture makes your fascia stiff
Fascia likes variety and movement most of all. When you stay in the same posture for a long time — bent over a phone, hours behind a desk or with shoulders pulled up by stress — the tissue gets few stimuli to stay supple. It can then feel stiffer and less elastic, as if it has «moulded» itself to that posture. Many women recognise this as a stuck, tense or tired feeling that is strongest at the end of the day. This is not a condition, but an understandable reaction of tissue that gets too little variation.
Prolonged posture
Sitting or standing in the same position for long periods gives the fascia few stimuli, so the tissue can feel stiffer.
Built-up tension
Stress and tense muscles pull on the surrounding fascia, which over time comes to feel less elastic.
Felt through the chain
Through the fascial chains that stiffness can pull elsewhere, for example from your lower back to your neck and shoulders.
A sedentary life plays a big role here. How sitting still affects your tissue and what you can do about it yourself, you can read in sitting still and stiffness explained. Ongoing tension contributes to that stiff feeling too; you can read more about this in our explainer on stress and fascia.
Honestly
What connective tissue massage does and does not do
It is tempting to think that a massage «straightens» your posture or fixes a complaint. That is not how it works, and we want to say so honestly. Connective tissue massage is not an orthopaedic correction and not a replacement for medical care. What the technique can do is help soften stiff and tense fascia, so that your tissue feels more supple and your body more easily settles into a relaxed, free posture. The difference is modest but important: the gain lies in suppleness and relaxation, not in correcting your body.
Supports
Suppleness
Deep manual techniques target the fascia and can help soften stiff, tense tissue — for a more supple, freer feeling.
Feeling
Relaxation
Many people experience less of a stuck feeling and more room to move after a treatment, without anything being «straightened».
No claim
No correction
Connective tissue massage does not correct posture and does not treat a medical complaint. Choose it for how it feels and what it supports.
The BodyFix Method
How BodyFix softens tense fascia
Within the BodyFix Method we look at the whole before we begin. With a diagnosis-first approach (Bodyreading) we map out where your tissue feels stiff or tense and how that connects with your posture and the fascial chains. We then work with deep manual connective tissue massage aimed at the fascia, to help soften stiff spots gradually. Because everything is connected, we sometimes focus on a different zone than where you experience the complaint.
Bodyreading first
Before the first treatment we read the body and look at where fascia and posture may need attention.
Deep connective tissue massage
Targeted manual techniques are aimed at the fascia, with the goal of making stiff, tense tissue feel more supple.
Working through the chain
Because tension travels, we look at the whole tissue around the complaint and not only at the spot itself.
This method was developed by founder Agnieszka Kadula and is carried out by medically trained therapists with a physiotherapy background and 2,500+ hours of training. This information is general in nature and does not replace medical advice or a diagnosis. Want to dive deeper into the technique? Good to know
When to see a doctor first
A relaxing treatment is meant to make your tissue feel more supple, not to diagnose or treat a complaint. Do you have persistent pain, tingling, radiating complaints or the suspicion of a medical cause? Then have that assessed first by a doctor or specialist. A doctor can judge what is going on and whether a treatment is sensible at that moment. With that certainty in hand, you can then look with peace of mind at what connective tissue massage can mean for your feeling of suppleness and relaxation.

Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions about posture & fascia
What exactly are fascial chains?
Fascial chains are the connected pathways along which your fascia runs through the whole body. Fascia is a continuous connective tissue network that wraps around and links muscles, joints and organs, a little like one uninterrupted web that flows into itself everywhere. Because everything is connected, tension or stiffness in one place can pull on a completely different part of the body. That is not a medical phenomenon to worry about, but a way to understand why your body reacts as a whole.
Can connective tissue massage improve my posture?
Connective tissue massage is not an orthopaedic correction and does not straighten your posture as a medical procedure. What the technique can do is help soften stiff, tense fascia, so that your body feels more supple and freer and you more easily settle into a relaxed posture. As a result many people experience less of a stuck feeling and more room to move. The effect therefore lies in suppleness and relaxation, not in straightening or correcting your posture.
Why do I feel tension somewhere other than where it is 'stuck'?
Because your fascia forms a continuous network, tension travels along the fascial chains. A stiff spot in your lower back can therefore pull on your neck or shoulders, and the other way around. Your body works as one connected whole rather than as separate parts, so the place where you feel something is not always the place the tension comes from. That explains why a treatment is sometimes aimed at a different zone than where you experience the complaint.
Does one treatment already help a tense feeling?
Many people already notice a lighter, more supple and more relaxed feeling after one treatment. At the same time, fascia that has become stiff over a longer period often benefits from several sessions, because the tissue gives way gradually. How many treatments suit you differs from person to person and depends on your lifestyle and how long the tension has been there. During the free consultation we discuss what is realistic, without promises about a fixed result.
