Hardening and fibrosis After liposuction or another procedure.
Does your skin feel hard, stiff or uneven in places after liposuction or another procedure? This is often called hardening or fibrosis. Here we explain fibrotic tissue and how BODYFIX supports your recovery.
What is fibrosis? Fibrotic tissue explained
Hardening is an everyday word for an area that feels stiffer or firmer than the surrounding tissue. Fibrosis is the medical term: more, firmer connective tissue has formed there. Tissue in which this happens is called fibrotic tissue. It can develop after surgery or around a scar, for example.
Fibrosis in the skin often feels like a hard, firm area beneath it. But stiffness does not automatically mean fibrosis. Only a doctor can assess whether it is fibrosis.
Hardening after liposuction
After liposuction, your tissue heals. During this time, some areas may temporarily feel stiffer or uneven, and fluid may remain. Our after-liposuction treatment is intended to support this stage.
This also applies after other procedures. Clients also visit us after a tummy tuck or breast or facial surgery.
Why clinics refer clients to us
Doctors and clinics refer clients to us after liposuction. Our aim is to help prevent and reduce hardening, support fluid drainage and recovery, and help your body take shape after the procedure. You do not need a referral. We do not diagnose.
Contact your clinic or GP if you have:
- a hard lump or swelling that is new, changes quickly or hurts
- a fever, or a red, warm area that gets worse
- any uncertainty about what you feel
What BODYFIX does after your procedure
After liposuction, we work in two stages, in a set order. Doctors and clinics refer clients to us after procedures.
- Stage 1: manual lymphatic drainage. A gentle, rhythmic technique, often starting in the week of your procedure. Lymphatic drainage supports the natural removal of fluid.
- Stage 2: connective tissue massage. Only once everything has healed well and there is no remaining fluid accumulation. Using targeted manual techniques, we work on the connective tissue beneath your skin. Our aim: more supple tissue and smoother skin.
We treat the area of your procedure: your face, abdomen, arms, back or legs & buttocks. One zone takes 30 minutes and costs €70. Manual lymphatic drainage differs from lymphatic drainage in the suit. Read more about the difference between manual and machine-assisted lymphatic drainage.
What treatment can and cannot do
Connective tissue massage is not a medical treatment. Our aim is for the tissue to feel more supple and even, and to help your body take shape after the procedure. Results vary from person to person. We only perform connective tissue massage once everything has healed well.
Had a caesarean? We massage the scar once the wound has fully closed. More about Postpartum Massage.
