What is connective tissue massage? A deep, hands-on massage.

Connective tissue massage is a deep, hands-on massage. Using targeted manual techniques and pressure, we work on the connective tissue beneath your skin: the fascia. Here we explain what it is, how it feels and which zones BODYFIX can treat, from face to legs.

What is fascia?

Fascia is connective tissue beneath your skin. It forms a continuous network throughout your body, surrounding and connecting muscles and organs. Areas where tissue feels tight or stiff are called adhesions. Over time, connective tissue, for example in your face, becomes stiffer and less supple.

A relaxation massage mainly works on your muscles. Connective tissue massage focuses on the connective tissue layer. Deep tissue massage is different too. Read more about the difference between deep tissue and connective tissue massage.

What connective tissue massage at BODYFIX involves

First we assess, then we treat. BODYFIX has used its own method since 2008, and our therapists learn it with us.

  1. Body Reading or Face Reading. We look at where you hold tension, fluid or adhesions. We feel with our hands and ask what you would like to achieve.
  2. Your zones. You choose which zones we massage and how much time suits you. One zone takes 30 minutes.
  3. The treatment. Zone by zone, in a set order. We adjust the pressure to your comfort.
  4. A series. A single treatment is fine. In a series, we can work deeper each time. After every five treatments, we look together at how to continue.

How does connective tissue massage feel?

You can feel the firm, focused work, firmer than a relaxation massage. We adjust the pressure to your comfort and you set the pace. On your face, we work calmly and precisely.

Afterwards, your skin may look slightly red or feel warm, or an area may be tender. Read more under pain and side effects.

Connective tissue massage and lymphatic drainage

We perform connective tissue massage by hand. Lymphatic drainage takes place in the suit at Legmeerplein 7H: cuffs around your legs and abdomen gradually build and release pressure. Lymphatic drainage supports the natural removal of fluid.

You can book lymphatic drainage on its own (30 minutes, €45), or combine it with your connective tissue massage in one appointment: The Ultimate BODYFIX Massage, from €115. If your legs retain a lot of fluid, we start with lymphatic drainage. After liposuction, we start with manual lymphatic drainage instead.
